Flushing CSA will host a General Information and Membership Meeting from 2 to 4 PM on March 20, 2016 at the Flushing Friends Meetinghouse, 137-16 Northern Boulevard, Flushing, NY 11354. This is an opportunity to find out about how a CSA works and see if it works for you.
For over 25 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. This is the 5th year that Flushing CSA has provided organic vegetables from Golden Earthworm Organic Farm located just 70 miles away, in Jamesport, NY. The “shares” consist of a box of varied vegetables, but strawberries, melons and herbs are included, in season. Interested consumers purchase a share and in return receive a box of just picked, organic, really delicious seasonal produce with all the flavor and vitamin benefits that vegetables were meant to have. Members pick up their boxes each Thursday throughout the farming season, that’s 26 weeks long. A fruit share is also available, not organic but sustainable tree fruit (apples, peaches and pears) from Brieremere Farms in nearby Riverhead, NY.
Vendors represented at the meeting are:
- Golden Earthworm Organic Farm (Our Farmers)
- Green Earth Urban Gardens
- Lewis Waite Farm
- S & V Jams
- Sali Artisans
- Spice Tree Organics
Please contact us or speak to us at the meeting if you like the idea of community supported agriculture but you feel that a share is too much per week. Though we don’t sell half shares, we will try to pair you up with another member who is interested in splitting a share.
