Please join us Sunday, March 18, 2-6pm, to “Meet the Farmers”! This gathering will take place at the historic Quaker Meetinghouse, located at 137-16 Northern Boulevard (across the street from Flushing Town Hall where we pick up our produce). Map here.
This year, we will start with a free screening of the acclaimed film “Farmers for America,” which documents the challenges faced by those growing our food. We will begin at 2pm (so please plan arrive early and grab a complimentary beverage before the screening).
You’ll also have a chance to speak with the local farmers who grow food for Flushing CSA, including representatives from Golden Earthworm Organic Farm, which supplies our fruits and vegetables; Goodale Farm, which supplies meat, dairy and eggs; Lewis Waite, which provides other organic food items; S&V Jams; Astor Apiary; Queens Hot Sauce; and Spice Tree Organics.
Meet the Farmer will also be a great opportunity to meet your neighbors and learn about our growing farm-to-table community. There will be environmental and compost speakers, local purveyors displaying and/or selling local organic honey, small batch jams, baked goods, spices and eggs. There will also be raffles featuring healthy food-themed prizes.
For those of you who want to sign-up early for the upcoming 2018 season, our Membership Agreements are now available (print it out and to bring with you or pick one up at the event). Members who sign up before April 1st will get first priority for volunteer dates at pickup. This year’s season will be 25-weeks from May 31 to November 15, with pick ups on Thursdays from 5-8 PM. The basic share price is $538 and include herbs.
Joining the CSA is easy: just download, fill out, and send us the agreements. For your convenience, payments can now be sent by PayPal, check or credit card (processed in person). Checks should be made out to “Flushing CSA.”
Please help us get the word out. Post and share the attached flyers with those who might be interested. See you then!
