The harvest season is showing its variety! We apologize for leaving out a note in last week’s newsletter about the cosmetic issue affecting the sweet potatoes, but we hope you tried them and realized it truly was just cosmetic.
*** Please note that the final delivery of the season will take place on Thursday, December 1st.*** We will not receive a delivery the week of Thanksgiving. The farm will put together a special “holiday” box for us the Thursday before Thanksgiving.
We want to thank our volunteers and site supervisors last week for a job well done!
This week’s volunteers are: Miranda, Donna, Caryn and Yajaira. The site supervisors are Ralph and Larry. The HS student volunteers are: Emily, Vanessa, Andrea, and Tyniece.
A note to all: please remember to sign in! Occasionally a volunteer is distracted and forgets to insist, please try to remember yourself. We have had a couple of folks forget in recent weeks and it causes stress as we wind down and count more cards than boxes left over. Also if you notice anyone wander in off the street looking to buy vegetables, please direct them to the volunteer tables where we have flyers explaining what the CSA is, and how we work.
Egg shares and Lewis Waite extras this week. We thank everyone for bringing back the empty egg cartons. Lewis Waite appreciates it. Once you order, please pay online, as we don’t handle checks or cash.
No flower/herb shares this week.
This week’s table vendor is Spice Tree Organic Spices.
Applications for Winter Shares available! The contract is attached (or download it here ), but we are having on site sign-up. The deadline for sign-up is Thursday, November 17.
Not pictured: Toscano Kale, Bok Choi and Parsley. Please see Golden Earthworm Organic Farm blog for details of the share.
From your farmers Maggie and Matt:
Thanks to everyone who came out to the farm on Sunday! It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed meeting you and showing you around the farm!
We’re all cleaned up and ready to carry on with our usual weekday activities…harvesting your veggies!
This week’s share:
A note about the potatoes: White varieties are more sensitive to light (and they will turn green if they are exposed for too long.) Do not eat potatoes that have green flesh. You can usually see the green color through the skin. They can be toxic.
FRUIT SHARE – Mixed bag of Bosc Pears and Red & Golden Delicious Apples
If you are volunteering this week, it is absolutely essential that you read the volunteer directions below. The directions are slightly different than last year, so even seasoned members need to read!
Even if you are not volunteering this week, it is a good idea to become familiar with them so you understand exactly what’s going on.
